Creme de la Krems...

So now that we're on our boat, we're floating down the Danube and officially at this castle we're now in 'the Wachau' aka wine-producing region in Austria....

Lookin' good, lookin' good!

On top of that hill is Aggstein castle...a family used to live there who were the Austrian equivalent to the Borgia's....they would make enemies' 'offers they couldn't refuse' and if they did....

they got pushed out the back door....

UGH....

WINE! WINE! WINE!....I mean....GRAPE JUICE! GRAPE JUICE! GRAPE JUICE! :)

We have to make a little stop here to switch boats....don't know why...

But that hill behind the buildings is called '1000 Eimer' hill...an eimer was a measure of wine...so....1000 Eimers must've been A LOT of wine...

"Placidly go amid the noise and the haste..."

Taking advantage of the break to go run and see the surroudings....

bery purdy...

Our ship....

Nice digs....

.........nice......so nice.....

Now we're getting into Durnstein....Durnstein is famous for a former prisoner who was held here for ransom - Richard the Lionheart!

I don't know if he was held up top on that 'fortress' on the hill, but Emperor Maxmillian took him prisoner on his way back from the Crusades (seems strange...and how is that acceptable?)...anyway, Richard the Lionheart was known for singing in the taverns in Durnstein.....hmmm....

:)

Another monastery on a hill....will probably have to go visit that one too...

Now we're reaching the end of the boat ride - Krems....

You can read on Google about Krems, details, history, etc....I'm just trying to fight the setting sun! :)

Walking through the park....funny, no?

The 'tor' or gate to the old city....

Thanks Krems for letting us visit...sorry it was so short...after sun set Austria closes down - LAME! But oh well...something I'll accept...twas a wonderful day, thanks Schallaburg, Melk and Krems!
