Mossel Bay, South Africa

So we left Kimberley and made our way across, what could be described as a wasteland! Not much going on there....

Here we are in what I think is called the Karoo, but I am not sure....

Off in the distance are the mountains that let us know the coast is near!

We were astounded by the sudden appearance of this beautiful canyon!

Loved it! So pretty....

My dad was REALLY liking the ostriches, so we stopped to say 'hi'....whilst taking photos all of a sudden ALL of these ostriches started coming over....probably about 15 or more!

He loved the experience and afterwards claimed himself to be the 'Ostrich Whisperer' - quite apropos if you ask me ;)

We made our way through the canyon and now it's downhill to Mossel Bay and the coast....

Breathtaking....

The next day we set out to go SHARK CAGE-DIVING!!! AHHH!!! Face my fear of fears! ;)

Here is the cage....

and there was the shark...

But unfortunately that was IT! i.e. NO MORE SHARKS! i.e. NO CAGE-DIVING! i.e. that was THE purpose for coming to Mossel Bay! Wahhh! :(

Oh well...let's just enjoy the view and the water....

There's our hotel with the bay in the background...

This is the Dias Museum...Portuguese sailor who 'found' these areas...

This is the 'Old Post Tree'....apparently messages would be left in an old shoe and then forwarded....

here's a reconstruction of Dias's ship...

and here is the lighthouse and coast of Mossel Bay where we had lunch....

Wunderbar!

Now we're on the Mossel Bay-Bay side of things....where.....

We decided to be brave and go into the VERY COLD Indian ocean!! I'd always heard it was warm....WHATEVUH!

Mossel Bay at night....

And with that good night...cuz tomorrow, we're off to see some elephants!
